Mujun kitchen knives: complex simplicity

Mujun kitchen knives originate from a Japanese collective made up of designers and young craftsmen who specialise in making knives. They live and work in the outer areas of Japan where traditional artisanal work still exists. Mujun protects old crafts, working with young apprentices to carry these crafts forward and improve them where possible. This is also reflected in the kitchen knives. Traditional in design and manufacturing, but modern in the choice of steel. Mujun kitchen knives are made and sharpened by hand. As a result, the knives can differ slightly in terms of finish. It makes each knife unique.

About Mujun

Mujun lifestyle

In 2008, Mujun started collaborating with experienced artisans, with the intention of preserving age-old crafts while modernising the products to reach a larger audience. Mujun protects these old crafts, working with new, young craftsmen to carry these crafts forward and improve them where possible. Mujun has three young apprentices working in their own forge who take knife forging very seriously and aspire to become skilled craftsmen.

Mujun Planet

Mujun recently acquired a large tract of land in the mountainous, tree-filled region of Shimane. Mujun's vision is to create a village in this area where everyone can become a craftsman, working on a small scale for their community and making use of their natural environment as much as possible. Mujun Planet is all about the revitalization of the satoyama lifestyle, a lifestyle in which a durable and local community is supported. Back to how life was before Industrialisation; a sustainable and local lifestyle.
