One-handed pocket knife: quick and efficient

One-handed pocket knives are quick to open and efficient in use. That's why most pocket knives on the market are one-handed openers. For example, these are equipped with a thumb stud or a thumb hole that allows you to open the blade, as the name implies, with your thumb. This is great when you're holding on to a material you need to cut with one hand, so you can open the knife with your free hand. On this page you will find all one-handed pocket knives!

Features of one-handed pocket knives

One-handed pocket knives are knives that you can fold open using just one hand. Depending on the mechanism and how new you are to the world of pocket knives, this might take some practice. In most cases, however, it's intuitive and easy. The advantage of a one-handed opening pocket knife is that you open the blade quickly during your daily cutting tasks, so you are not forced to put down your work to open your knife.

Popular opening mechanisms

The most popular one-handed opening mechanisms the thumb studs, a thumb hole and flippers. These three options come in different shapes and sizes. A thumb stud is a little protrusion, like a 'button' on the side of your blade that you push to open the blade. A thumb hole is a hole in the blade. Both of these opening mechanisms give your thumb enough traction to push open the blade. A flipper is a part of the blade that sticks out, usually on the back of the blade. This little tab also gives you enough traction to flip open the blade. It's not unlike a light switch! Usually, you open a flipper knife with your index finger. Unfortunately, we cannot sell flippers in the UK and Ireland, you can read more about this here.

Knife laws

Not all one-handed pocket knives are legal to carry or possess in parts of Europe. Want to be sure whether your pocket knife is legal in your country? Read more about knife laws here.
