My initial impression was one of a good solid knife that will handle what tasks you throw at it and the price point seemed good too. The blade is good and strong as is the blade tip itself. It's sharp out of the box and seems as if it will stand up to frequent moderate use with ease. The handle material is comfortable, of good size and shape and keeps a grip even in wet conditions. The problem I have found after just three days of moderate use is that the handle material has become loose on the tang of the blade. I thought that the Kray-ex material was bonded to the steel but apparently it is just press fit onto it with the lanyard eyelet being the only securing point on it. After researching a little, this seems to be a known issue with at least some batches of these knives over the years, for me this is a very basic quality issue that should be picked up in sample testing by a manufacturer and easily remedied.

Cold Steel has a strong reputation at manufacturing high quality products at affordable prices and the SRK is no different. Starting with the excellent steel, full length tang and blade thickness with a good working blade angle and comfortable grip even when wet, the SRK is a decent all rounder at a knock down price for military or civilian alike. I've used my SRK for cutting paracod, chopping and whittling as well as splitting wood, cleaning game, shaving kindling, preparing food and plenty of other tasks. The Kydex sheath is very practical and has great retention even without using the button close strap. I highly recommend the Cold Steel SRK.
