The **Bark River Michigan Hunter** is a remarkable fixed knife, made in Escabana, Michigan, USA. Designed for hunting purposes, but also great for camping enthusiasts and collectors. Aside from the fact that this knife looks amazing and is nicely made, it also comes with quite the history.



This knife highlights 150 years of Michigan knife history. The work from Bill Scagel (1873-1963) with the stacked rings in the handle. About him alone you can write many books, which is also what happened. Highly recommended for those who appreciate this. The subsequent adaptations by Bo Randall (1909-1989) and the knives that were produced by Marbles for most of the 20th century were clearly used as a source of inspiration for this knife. A knife according to the school of Michigan as it were. The way the knife guard and pommel are completed by the coloured rings. The subtle space between the knife guard and the heel of the blade. And the typical Scagel-like droppoint-shaped blade with swedge are clearly recognizable.



The blade is made from CPM Cru Wear steel. A tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. Sharpen it once and you are good to go for a long time. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM Cru Wear is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm). Bark River considers Cru Wear to be a type of steel that looks a lot like CPM 3V.



The handle of the Bark RIver Michigan Hunter is made from *stacked leather*. These are stacked leather discs which, combined, form one comfortable handle. On both sides the handle is flanked by a knife guard and pommel. The amount of manual labour involved is unimaginable for a (semi-)production knife such as this.



The Bark River Michigan Hunter comes with a stunning handmade leather sheath.



Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
