## Establishment BioLite


The BioLite founders, Jonathan and Alec, met during Smart Design in New York. Here they quickly learned that they share an interest in developing sustainable products. Alec thought it was strange that nearly all efficient stoves needed fossil fuels. As a result he came up with the idea to develop a wood burning stove that could use its own thermic energy to improve the combustion. With Jonathan’s technical knowledge they started the design process. Countless hours, days and prototypes later the BioLite Campstove was born. A portable biomass stove to build a fire without the smoke that you can also use to charge your mobile devices. A wood burning stove and charger in one, brilliant!


In 2008 Jonathan and Alec took a working prototype of the CampStove to a conference where they discovered that their technology could have a massive impact. Almost half of all inhabitants on earth are lacking clean and affordable household energy, cook their meals on smoky fireplaces and have little or no electricity at their disposal. For this reason Jonathan and Alec committed themselves to establish a company that is capable of supplying energy to those who need it the most. Based on the same technology as the CampStove a large sized biomass stove was developed: the BioLite HomeStove. A stove that drastically reduces the use of fuel and decreases the emissions with 90% while you charge your cell phone.
