The **Spyderco Native 5 Maxamet** is an old acquaintance, enhanced with a luxurious type of steel.




Everyone has heard of the Spyderco Native 5 before. A real classic enhanced with a rock-solid backlock. Excellent ergonomics and perfect dimensions. Simply great, for years and in every edition. Like a Volkswagen.



## Spyderco in Maxamet steel: GTI amongst the types of steel.


But you can also order a GTI version of a Volkswagen, they must have thought at Spyderco. That is why the Spyderco Native 5 comes with a blade made from Maxamet steel. Quite the upgrade. Maxamet is known for its excellent sharpness retention and hardness. With a little effort a manufacturer can even harden it up to 70HRC. To make sure the knife is still useable this Native 5 is hardened up to (approx.) 66-68 HRC. As such you benefit from exceptional hardness, without compromising when it comes to toughness. As such the Spyderco Native 5 Maxamet is perfect for daily tasks. Do be careful around moisture, salt and acids; Maxamet is not stainless. By using it a patina will form on its own. If you leave it out for a couple hours you may already see stains.

Ligt lekker in de hand, net als de meeste Spyderco messen. Voelt solide en licht aan. Het maxamet blad is geweldig, maar maakt hem wel erg duur. Toch zeker een aanrader!

In my opinion the best knife that Spyderco makes, and this Maxamet model is probably the best version of it. Perfect size for EDC, and perfect steel for a blade this small. The Para 3 in Maxamet is the only thing close to it, but that's heavier and bigger in the pocket for no added benefit (except for the fidget factor I guess).

This is my first native, and it might be my favourite small spyderco due to the ergonomics. 
I've already gotten some patina on the blade especially around the openinghole, no big deal.
