This is a basic knife in a typical Japanese style. I like it as it's different and quirky. You can clearly see the triple steel lamination. It's a little rough around the edges but in my opinion it adds to the appeal. After a quick few passes on the ceramic stone it sharpened up well.

This is folding knife work at its simplest and, in my opinion, its most elegant. The grip is a simple folded form and the blade has no lock, springs or detents as your thumb keeps it in place on the tab at the back of the blade. The blade is sharp enough to shave out of the box and a very useful size. The slight katana curve to the edge is very good at speeding up cutting of rope, i have another that i use for such, in comparison to a straight edge or even a serrated saw tooth edge. Value for money is very much based on what you want out of a blade. As a collector of small folders and small to medium sized fixed blades i am less inclined to be using much of what i buy as it's normally intended for the display drawers. However i use a syperco byrd and copilot regularly along with a boker pocket knife and my other higonokami. I find the higi comfortable for long periods of use when splicing and whipping rope for decorative knotwork. All in all i find it worth the money.

Lightweight knife that feels comfortable in the hand. The blade is substantial, strong and sharp. Simple opening mechanism but does not lock so care in use needs to be taken. I really like the elegant slimline look of this knife and the tortoiseshell handle has a lovely finish. One small grumble is that the edges on the open side of the handle end a little abruptly and could have been rounded a little more to enhance the feel.
