Superior to other Higonokami knives I´ve seen in brick and mortar shops (that were really miniature knives with very reduced functionality). Pros: - Aesthetically pleasing, conversation piece type of object - Robust, sharp, very functional blade able to withstand moderate to hard work - I thought the absence of a locking mechanism would be a problem, but the blade does stay securely in place - Fair price, very cost effective Cons: Not exactly cons, more features inherent to the design and build. - Regular maintenance needed (cleaning and coat of oil) - even stainless steel knives need this, of course. This one might need a bit more often. - Locking mechanism. I know it´s not the original Higonokami design, but I still wish they made these with a locking mechanism... Summary : Would buy again and recommend purchase.

Unlike a much advertised’Japanese knife this one is the real McCoy, and can’t you tell. Neat, functional and well proportioned. A hallmark of genuine Japanese workmanship. Recommended.

A bit basic, but at this price can't really complain. Blade is a bit irregular, but a bit of a sharpen sorted it. And I have to say it does get ridiculously sharp, sharper than a brand new stanley knife blade. Plus I now feel a bit of a Samurai when I use it. My pencils have never been so sharp.

Excellent sharp knife. Lever to open great for me with weak fingers.

I was interested to own a typical Japanese penknife whose style had been around for over a hundred years and had been an EDC for school children. It is a simple design, well made and light in weight (41 grams). A legal carry in UK and comfortable to fit into a jacket or trouser pocket. The blade is sharp from out of the packet and being carbon steel holds the edge. Maintenance is straightforward - wipe with a cloth/handkerchief after each use, a spot of oil now and then and re-sharpen when required. A nice little knife and a lot of tradition. Moorcroft

Out of the box is not sharp, as I would aspect, nor the best finish on the blade, but if have the patience and a whetstone this "blunt" unfinished tool becomes a precision blade. Blue paper steel is one of the best steel to have ( not stainless, so keep it dry). The blade is thick, 3mm. When you think about is is not much, but if you want to use it on fruits or soft vegetables looks like a split-logger. :) All depends for the purpose you give to the knife, otherwise is a wonderful piece. I really enjoy its simplicity and I manage to sharpen it to a shaving razor blade level. I just love it!
