The **TOPS El Chete Midnight Bronze** is the embodiment of destruction. This machete was designed to chop wood. As soon as you hold the El Chete, you can tell that this is a serious knife. The weight and the balance of the blade make a very effective machete.

## El Chete blade

The blade of the TOPS El Chete is made from 1095 carbon steel. At the cutting edge, it has a Rockwell hardness of 56-58 HRC. n the back of the blade, this hardness is a lot lower. This gives you the best of both worlds: a harder cutting edge for sharpness retention, and a tougher spine that absorbs the blows. 1095 steel is excellent for absorbing the impact and stress of chopping. The cutting edge is also nice and easy to sharpen. You do have to watch out for rust, though, because 1095 is not a stainless steel. Make sure to clean it after use and apply a little oil every now and then.

## El Chete handle

The handle of such a large, solid knife needs to be excellent. Grip is super important when you're exerting so much force on a cutting tool. Luckily, Leo Espinoza, the designer and president at TOPS Knives, has carefully considered this. The micarta handle offers excellent grip even in wet conditions or when you're wearing gloves. The large finger groove at the front of the handle ensures that the handle won't slip out of your grasp. There are also lanyard eyes to attach a wrist cord.

## El Chete sheath

A Kydex sheath is included, so you can carry the El Chete with you. What is special about this sheath is that you do not have to remove the entire knife vertically from the sheath. The top is open, so you can tilt the knife when you're pulling it out. That's how you pull the El Chete out of its sheath quickly and without any effort! An open sheath? Don't worry. A press stud makes sure the knife stays securely in place. This sheath also has a rotating steel clip so you can attach it to your belt.
