Full description
This KA-BAR D2 Extreme Fighting Knife 1292 is based on the legendary KA-BAR 1317 USMC knife. This knife is based on the 1217: one of the most popular knives of all times. In 1942 this knife was used by the United States Marine Corps as a standard fighting knife for the marines. With this knife KA-BAR offers an alternative for the military-oriented 1217 knife. It is great for hunting, camping and bushcraft purposes. The knife is big and feels very strong.

I own many knives. Most folders have stainless blades which require minimal maintenance. But many fixed blades are made of 1095 or other non-stainless blades. These require not just cleaning after use, but also the application of some oil to prevent rusting. Mineral oil is best if the knife is to be used for food prep. I have long had my eye on this Ka-Bar in D2 as the steel is semi-stainless and hard, making it retain an edge while requiring minimal maintenance ie oiling against rust. I finally bought the D2 Ka-Bar when the price dropped. I have taken it out into the bush and tried it on various woods. It cuts quickly and deeply and keeps its edge. The blade shape is a classic and it works well in the kitchen too. Frankly, I prefer using it to a blade of 1095.
