The **Bark River Kalahari Hunter** is a solid, substantial hunting knife, designed for gutting medium and large game. The handle is ergonomically shaped, so it is perfect for long-term use. The blade has a substantial belly, which is ideal for skinning as it means you can't unintentionally puncture anything. The spine of the tip has a false edge, or swedge. This makes the tip a bit thinner, ideal for tasks that require precision. The Kalahari Hunter is a hunting knife that will be right at home in any hunting ground.


The blade is made from A2 tool steel, a strong steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).



The handle is made of canvas micarta, which is a strong and lightweight material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold conditions.



The Bark River Kalahari Hunter comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it either upright (belt width up to 5.5 cm) or diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm). 



Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
